Colour 1

Grade 6 this week you have started making your colour charts which you will use in future painting assignments. To complete this project you will be using the Primary colours (Yellow, Red, Blue) + Black and White. After talking in class you know that using these five colours you can create all the colours that you might need when painting + all their Tints and Shades.

Your colour chart will represent the following HUES: Yellow, Orange, Red, Violet, Blue, Green, their Shades and Tints, and you will also create a Grey Scale. This exercise will teach you how to mix your own colours successfully while getting to know the properties of the paints we are using in class. It will also show you how to determine Value (the lightness or darkness) and Intensity (the brightness or dullness) of a Hue.

Words that we talked about:

  1. Hue - in painting means pure colour
  2. Tint - is a Hue with White added to it (see above)
  3. Shade - is a Hue with Black added to it (see above)
  4. Value - the lightness or darkness of a colour
  5. Intensity - the brightness or dullness of a colour
I have posted some interesting links connected to colour over on the right-hand side of the blog under the heading Colour - go take a look at them.
